Gerry Rafferty Dies; I’m Heading to Baker Street

The guy responsible for one of my favorite songs waaaayyyy back when I was in high school has died. Gerry Rafferty, best known for the 1978 hit “Baker Street” passed away.

Rafferty was 63 and had liver failure, according to published reports.

That sax solo in Baker Street always seems to get stuck in my head. Unlike in the case of many tunes, I always enjoy it when I start humming Baker Street to myself. Even in 1978, especially in 1978, when I was a sophomore in high school, I just wanted to get away to a more sane place. Like Rafferty’s Baker Street.

Rafferty was also with an earlier band called Stealer’s Wheel, which had a big hit with “Stuck in the Middle With You.”

Here’s video of Baker Street as a tribute:

Does anybody out there also love “Baker Street?” Or any of his other songs. I know a couple who used “Right Down the Line” by Rafferty at their wedding. Any other memories out there with Rafferty tunes?
