Tea Party Outrageousness

OK, I just don’t get it.

The Tea Party activists all say they want us to adhere strictly to the Constitution, and they don’t want our American freedoms threatened or interfered with.

Ok, makes sense.

Then comes this news about Tea Party darling Joe Miller, the GOP Senate candidate up in Alaska.

You might have heard that a couple of his goons, uh, I mean security guards handcuffed a political blogger because he insisted on asking questions to our buddy Joe Miller. (regular police officers later showed up and let the blogger go)

Our buddy Joe points out that this was a private event, but really, this was in a public high school and reporters asking politicians annoying questions is de rigeur in America and healthy. Shouldn’t we know about the candidates?

Then we find out two reporters from the Anchorage Daily News were almost handcuffed by the same goons, uh, security guards because they were trying to figure out what was happening with the blogger.

Now, it gets totally outrageous. Salon’s Glenn Greenwald is now reporting that the two goons, uh, security guards who handcuffed the blogger were active duty Army personnel

Greenwald forwarded this information from the Anchorage Daily News.

ADN also reports that one of the goons, I mean security guards, might have ties to an Alaska militia.

So the candidate who is spouting this stuff about American freedom and all that is employing tactics that would have the U.S. State Department squawking like mad if it were happening in another country.

Joe Miller, do you value freedom? I doubt it. I also invite other Tea Party enthusiasts to weigh in on this. Or does the Tea Party only want the freedoms they want for themselves and screw everybody else? Do they want to deny Constitutional freedoms to people they don’t like?

I’m very  OK with political differences, but extremists like Miller are almost as much a  threat to American democracy as Islamic militants.
