Out into the Heat

Add a little heat to the air and you can’t keep anybody indoors.

Yesterday in Burlington the temperature reached 79 degrees, breaking the old record for the date of 65. It’s supposed to be even hotter today, probably above 80 degrees

At work Friday, I couldn’t reach anybody by phone. Part of it had to be because of the start of Easter weekend. Most of it had to do with the warm sunshine. Everybody was outside.

After a long Vermont winter, people will fall over each other trying to get some sun on their snow white pale skin. The result is a traffic jam of people. The first photo show’s Burlington’s Church Street Marketplace at about 1 p.m. Friday. The second is the Burlington Bike Path, around 6 p.m.

Interestingly how the number of people drinking, and exercising both increased exponentially with the onset of the heat wave.

Today, with the expected temperature around 82, I’ll have to adjust to working outside in summer heat. Compared to what I usually deal with this time of year, downpours with temperatures barely above freezing, I think I will somehow survive today.

Bring on the Gatorade.
